Eligibility Criteria for UPSC Civil Services

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university (Central/State/Deemed).
  • Degrees from regular, distance, open, or equivalent professional programs (ICAI/ICWAI/ICSI/MBBS, etc.) are accepted.
  • Final-year candidates may apply provisionally but must complete graduation before the Main Exam (August 2026).
  • No minimum percentage required; degree must be valid and recognized.

Work Experience

  • No mandatory work experience is required for Group A & Group B Central Services through UPSC CSE; it is an entry-level exam.
  • Professional experience is not required, but may be beneficial for certain services:
    • IRS: Finance, taxation, or accounting background may help.
    • IFS: Exposure to international relations or foreign affairs may be advantageous.
    • IPS: No prior experience required.

Most candidates join immediately after completing their Bachelor’s degree without prior work experience.
